It’s a great review for women with darker skin tones, and the importance of having the right color- especially in pictures! Not knowing her exact skin tone, the Radiance shade she received was a bit too light for her, but the review details several benefits and usage ideas too.

MY “TRYING OTHER BRANDS” EXPERIMENT

Every now and again, I get the itch to trying other brands just because.

Just because …..sometimes I need to see if there are products or colors we should bring in (other than the obvious choices like skin care and other things- which I promise we ARE working on as we speak)……

Just because …..I am so emotionally attached to my baby (my 3rd baby named Ferro Cosmetics), I need to try the competition to really judge the quality of our products…….

Just because ….it helps we write our marketing materials….

And sometimes….just because…..

Ok so this morning I was trying BRAND X (starts with a “B”), and I tried their Blush with 3 different foundation bases. One with our soon-to-launch mineral tinted moisturizer, one with our Ultimate Mineral Foundation (no bismuth) and one over top just applying our Matte Veil.

UGH!!

I used a teeny weeny bit in the brush, and applied to the apples of my cheeks first. Well….holy color.com! It grabbed in certain areas, didn’t go on in others, and I literally looked like a little girl playing makeup with my mommy’s makeup bag. No matter applied over a moist skin base like liquid tinted moisturizer, or an even mineral powder application, it still grabbed and looked very spotty.

Now I know why women have such makeup phobias. I’ve been using our products since well before we even had a name for our company, and I am so spoiled with our products that I often forget the true issues women face selecting the right products and colors. Never have I ever worried about how my blush would look or last, because even though it’s highly concentrated, it is also concentrated with skin smoothing minerals to evenly distribute the color no matter what your skin type is like.

So back to horrible blush 101…

After it was applied, I had to go over it with our Ultimate Mineral Foundation, and then again with our Matte Veil. I finally tamed the shade, and thank God our foundation and Veil’s are weightless, because for as much as I had to use to tone it down, I would have looked like a cakey hot mess.

After all of that, it lasted for about 3 hours tops, and I looked like an exhausted crazy woman with 10 newborns, not to mention not pretty at all! By the 3rd day of my experiment (with foundation as my base) I ended up taking it all off, redoing my face with our own products, and living happily ever after with gorgeous makeup until 1am. Confession- until 7am- I fell asleep reading and awoke to my perfect makeup application from the day before….sssh don’t tell anyone and I won’t tell either!

In closing, I will continue these experiements, because it makes me so thankful that these very same kinds of products were the inspirations to create our products today. I even want to change some of our marketing directions, because our mineral makeup lasts literally 24 hours or more, but at the very least- is so long wearing!! Traditional “long wear” products are so toxic that we normally forgo that long wear benefit and settle for touchups every 3 hours just because it’s not poison! Well, I dont know about you, but I dont have time for touch ups, NOR room in my bag for the products- I just want to do my makeup in the morning and feel confident facing the world at 3pm, 7pm, and 9pm, looking the same as when I left- fabulous!

I encourage you to do this same experiment and give our products a try! We are super excited about this! We’ve done many celebrities, and even have several pictures of them wearing our own Ferro Cosmetics products, but this is our first TRUE COVER and the first time working with the FABULOUS Zooey Magazine. A LITTLE GLOATING MAY WE?

Everyone likes to brag just a little bit don’t they? Well, I admit I like to brag about all things Ferro Cosmetics at least. Because of Our humble beginnings, it always makes me proud when we have achieved accomplishments for the simple fact of how great our products are.

So here’s how we got the cover (and the bragging rights)…..

We were approached by Zooey to be a part of their Green Beauty Shoot, along with 16 other green/eco-inspired products and companies. So we sent in our products and hoped they were chosen for the center beauty spread featuring the gorgeous Ford Models.

Then we got an email from the magazine’s beauty director, Sharon Tabb, AND the editor, Lucia Tran, raving about how fabulous they thought the products were, and that they decided to use them all on Ashley’s cover shoot! That was a totally fabulous day, and even better was actually having the magzine in our hands, and seeing how truly gorgeous her makeup looked!

The entire spread of both Ashley Tisdale AND the lovely Ford Models really shows off the mission of our products: gorgeously glam yet making the look totally natural. Giving the look of naturally radiant skin, and making skin look radiant—NATURALLY! This is exactly how we have intended our products to function and look, and the photo shoots have embodied exactly that.

Never looking overly “made up” (or clown faced as we looked in the 80′s), and calling attention to the natural beauty of the woman as opposed to how beautifully she applied her makeup. Although we do like to toot our own horn, we never want the “tooting” so-to-speak to come from the actual makeup application- rather from the compliments you’ll receive from wearing it.

And by the way- that IS the most popular comment we hear from our clients: raving about all the compliments they have received suddenly as soon as they started wearing Ferro Cosmetics.

FERRO COSMETICS MINERAL MAKEUP – SOO ECO-FAB FOR PHOTO SHOOTS

Why is mineral makeup a better choice? Well for starters, not just ANY mineral makeup will do. Bismuth, commonly found in most brands (like i.d bare minerals) is a very shiny, man made ingredient that reflects light….lots of it….so is most times not the best choice. It can make skin look oily, even OFF photos. Worse, many brands mineral foundations are just too sheer, leaving alot of photo retouching for the photographers. Ferro’s Ultimate Mineral Foundation (used in Ashley’s shoot) is great both ON and OFF camera. No bismuth = NO shine, and the natural clays in Ultimate Mineral Foundation absorbs moisture and oils coming from the skin or the environment to keep shine at bay all day. It absorbs light from camera flash’s, keeping the skin’s natural skin tone in tact without whitening out the face.

The best part is that after the shoot- the model can go right back into the world with the same makeup on as the shoot! Normally photo shoot makeup is heavy and quite frightening to look at off camera- so after all the beautification is complete on the models, they end up washing it off after the shoot, leaving makeup-less. The same amount of makeup is applied for either a photo shoot OR just your regular day at the office with Ferro Cosmetics. The only difference is the amount of coverage desired. I myself like ecven full coverage everyday; I just like the look of perfect skin, and the same is required for most shoots. So, a few more light layers of Ultimate Mineral Foundation is applied for a shoot, but everything else is otherwise dictated by the desired LOOK or style, and the makeup application is simply directed by that styled look, with colors chosen just like you would to match your outfit for the day.

ROYAL WEDDING- KATE’S MAKEUP LOOK & A FEW SPECIALS OF OUR OWN

Aahhh, weddings! The Royal Wedding That Is

I couldn’t help but find myself totally excited for this gorgeous “commoner” as she was affectionately called, and yet maybe just a teeny weeny bit jealous! I mean, don’t we all admit to wishing at some point in our lives having the affections of a prince or other worldly stature? I for one STILL sort of keep a flicker of hope for my own prince- in which case even in my ripe young age of 40… I would choose Robert Pattinson as MY Prince! Ok ok, enough about MY steamy dreamy Prince ideals (dream being the key word here). We’ll get back to Kate and the Real-life Prince Charming and the Royal Wedding.

In celebration of England’s new prin-CESS (that’s my attempt at trying to have an English accent), I thought we’d re-create Kate’s look ah-la Ferro Cosmetics! (that was my French accent attempt) And even though the wedding is long over, we have a few post-wedding gifts and specials just for YOU to honor and celebrate the occasion. I am STILL being in awe at how truly gorgeous she looked, and I’m talking about her makeup more specifically. The way she did her makeup was simply outstanding- glam enough to suit the status of her day, yet simple enough that everyone looked at HER, not her makeup. In other words, If Kate were not in a wedding dress with a zillion people tuning in- and say maybe was dressed in a casual outfit, her makeup would still have been perfectly fitting.  Word has it Kate did her very own makeup, and she did a fabulous job if I do say so myself. I wish we could take credit for her product of choice (maybe the next princess), but it’s obvious she chose products that made her look naturally radiant and truly gorgeous. The kind of look we all aspire to have every day, and that’s exactly the kind of look our pure mineral makeup can give you.

THE ROYAL LOOK

Naturally glowing radiant skin while playing up the eyes, with a dash of “I’m in love” color on her cheeks.

1.       FOUNDATION – We’d choose Ultimate Mineral Foundation in Light Medium Beige, applied with our Long Handle Flat Top Brush #243 for more fuller, even coverage. Her face is completely free from shine, so Ultimate’s mattifying properties would have kept Kate shine-free. The natural Kaolin Clay in Ultimate Mineral Foundation absorbs moisture from the skin and the environment, so that would help keep shine at bay all day. Ultimate Mineral Foundation also photographs extremely well as it absorbs light from flash’s and bright portrait lighting, avoiding the “white face” look, keeping true skin tone, and of course, NO shine. (this is why we always always use Ultimate in fashion photo shoots).

2.       EYES Strongly yet sophisticated black-lined eyes with neutral shadow colors lets her eyes stand out while not looking un-natural or overly done, even with the heavier liner. Translation for girls like us? Don’t be afraid of eye liner- on BOTH top and bottom. No matter our age, (crepe eyes or smooth as a baby’s bottom), it brings out your own eye color and makes your eyes look bigger. BEGIN WITH CONCEALING by applying Ultimate Mineral Foundation 1-2 shades lighter than your face shade foundation (in this case we’d use Light Beige) under eyes bringing right to lash line, inner eye corners, and down to almost top of cheek. This brightens eyes very subtly, and prevents eye liner/mascara smudges. Ultimate Mineral Foundation absorbs oils and shine that can happen around eyes, especially with waxy eye products. Blend.

3.       SHADOW We’d use our Eye Candy 15 Hour Mineral Eye Shadow & Liners in these shades: Champagne, Taupe, and 12 AM. FIRST, using our Eye Shadow Brush # 141, sweep a light layer of CHAMPAGNE Eye Candy over entire lid, with extra applied on brow bone, under brows. NEXT, using our smaller shadow brush # 142  apply TAUPE on lid from lash line up into crease. Using a Blending brush #144, use light back and forth movements over the area where the darker TAUPE meets the lighter CHAMPAGNE tone. Add more Taupe and/or Champagne, respectively where desired.

4.       BROWS Using Taupe (a FABULOUS brow definer) and a Brow Brush #120, lightly fill in existing brows, being careful not to thicken but only to define. Keep the brush on the top of the brow for the most part, and only apply to bottom edges of brows to define a cleaner line. (tweeze away any strays)

5.       LINER Using 12 am and our bent liner brush #130, we would apply 12am WET. Starting in the middle of the eye when your brush is full, staying close to lash line, and working your way back to inside of eye when your brush is almost empty. This helps eliminate liner being too thick on the inner corners as the thickness should always be on the outer corners.

6.       FINISH EYES with lots of mascara.

7.       CHEEKS We loved her cheeks! That rosie glow can be achieved using brighter tones in EITHER Pinks or Peaches, and BOTH tones match almost every woman’s skin tone! Watching it live on TV- I would have used PINKY SWEAR Blush x3 to replicate the look, but in this particular picture it looks a bit more Peachy- so we’d use TERRA COTTA. Whatever your fancy- go bold!

8.       LIPS Kate kept her lips very neutral, so we’d mix a little clear gloss with Pinky Swear Blush X3, dab onto lips, blot to remove the gloss tackiness, and then dab on a bit more Pinky Swear dry with a lip brush to set and add just a natural pop of color.

This is our own personal version of how we would duplicate Kate’s look using Ferro Cosmetics mineral makeup products. We are in no way inferring that she is wearing Ferro Cosmetics, this is just a fun translation of a now timeless look we will remember for years to come. It’s also a great interpretation of how very UN-daunting applying makeup can really be once you have great products to work with, knowing the right colors, and a few tips to apply them with.
